Karate Biography

Sempai Todd Fitch began his martial arts training in college, taking his first Shotokan class from Sensei Isao Wada at San Jose State University. From there, he had a short gap in his training due to marriage, a child, and working in Europe. Upon his return, he began studying again through the City of Santa Clara Parks & Recreation Department, going all the way to first-kyu with Sensei Carol. When Sensei Carol retired, Sensei Mary Crawford “inherited” Todd and thus began his long career and association with Sensei Crawford and Okaigan Shotokan Karate-do. Todd studied off and on over the years as a result of work commitments and a serious knee injury that sidelined him for a few years. His knee recovered, he began training again and in 2009 earned his Shodan. When not at the dojo, Todd has taught classes on and off for over 18 years. Currently he teaches part-time at the Okaigan Main dojo in Cupertino under Chief Instructor Sensei Mary Crawford. Todd enjoys running, hiking, riding his motorcycle, and acting.
He has a BS in Computer Science from SJSU and MBAs from UC Berkeley and Columbia University.
He is an economics professor at the University of San Francisco and UC Berkeley, and is currently the CTO for a local hi-tech startup
