Karate Biography

At the age of 9 Tanay Nandgaonkar started studying karate under Sensei Mary Crawford through the City of Sunnyvale, Summer School “YES Express” program. After receiving his 9th kyu through this program he then transferred to the main Okaigan Karate dojo in Cupertino.
Since then, he has been training at the main dojo for the past eight years, reaching the level of Black Belt. Tanay was on the Okaigan Competition Team for five years. He participated at many local, state and national tournaments competing in kata, kumite and weapons, medaling in many of his events. Tanay has assisted teaching many of the dojo classes since 4th Kyu. From 2011-2013 Tanay volunteered as an Assistant Coach for the junior competition team. Tanay is a certified coach through the USA National Karate do Federation. He is currently an undergraduate at UC Berkeley.
